Walking (and eating) through Venice

Coffee at Rosa Salva

Mama and I had a lovely day in Venice, on our own little, self-planned walking food tour.

First, we stopped for cafe lattes and pastries at Rosa Salva. We sat at one of the outside tables, looking onto the Campo Santissimi Giovanni e Paolo. We enjoyed watching the people parading past us nearly as much as the coffee!

Fortified, we headed off in search of a famous bookstore featuring a gondola filled with books. Libreria Acqua Alta was an interesting shop, though very crowded. We found a couple of calendars that we loved and a new Venice children’s book for our collection.

Along our walk, we found a gorgeous spot for a new family portrait. A kind and sociable family took this beautiful photo for us, and they all gathered in on getting Paisley to pose too! I love the bridge on either side of us and that two canals meet just under the intricate wrought iron bridge where we’re standing.

Pasta at Dal Moro’s

Next, we made our way to Dal Moro’s, for their fresh pasta to go. We got to select between 10 different sauces and several optional toppings (cheeses, meats, veggies, and more). The food was inexpensive with generous portions. Mama enjoyed the Frutti Di Mare (a tomato and fish sauce) with mozzarella and olives added on top, while I had the Bolognese with parmesan and mushrooms. The tricky part was finding somewhere to sit, but luckily, a seat on the ledge outside opened up just as our food was ready. The pasta was delicious and the staff was friendly.

Before catching the vaporetto back home, we stopped at our old favorite gelato shop, Suso, located near the Rialto Bridge. They didn’t have our favorite flavor from six years ago, an unusual mix of mint chip with extra chocolate and a hint of coconut. But Mama and I both tried a caramel, ginger, cinnamon flavor called Orient Express. Plus, I had to get the mint chip, obviously. We found the gelato to be scrumptious! And our tummies to be full!
