Raise Up Extraordinary Women: Vashti Gaddie-Mayhew

Vashti Gaddie-Mayhew

For the month of December, I’ll be shining light each day on some extraordinary women I know. They represent various fields and backgrounds, and I admire each for their passion and strength. These are bold, beautiful, brave women — artists, businesswomen, union organizers, nurses, writers, teachers, movie makers, designers, reporters, and all-around badasses.

Vashti Gaddie-Mayhew is an abstract artist working with acrylics on canvas. She lives in Santa Rosa, California with her husband and two daughters. When not creating in her art studio, her creative thumb is being expressed in the kitchen. She is raising up two strong women to be creative and loving.

Vashti’s magnificent artwork

1. What did you want to be “when you grew up?” I wanted to be an architect. I was drawn to what’s on the inside of homes.

2. What makes you the most proud of yourself? I’m most proud of my kids and my family. When my girls accomplish something and overcome obstacles, I love to see the light in their faces.

3. What darkness have you overcome? How did you find strength? I’ve overcome abuse as a kid, which made me stronger as a woman. When I need strength, I go to art, music, or a good conversation with my husband.

4. Where will we find you on a Saturday morning at 10 a.m.? You’ll find me in bed with a cup of my husband’s special brew of bulletproof coffee, while I listen to my girls chase each other.

5. What makes you smile the most? What makes me laugh is my kids when they’re sarcastic.

Bonus: What advice would you give your younger self? I would say to my younger self, do everything you wanted to do, it’s gonna be worth it because in the end, you’re gonna have a wonderful life.

Today’s #OneGoodThing is sharing this extraordinary woman and our kind and beautiful neighbor, Vashti Gaddie-Mayhew, with all of you! We are stronger together, so let’s shine a light on our extraordinary sisters! If you’d like to participate or nominate a woman to participate, please send me a note or leave a comment! What was your #OneGoodThing today? Please share in the comments! Kindness is Everything.
