Emotional refuge in the garden

I got dressed up to vote yesterday. And today I gardened in pajamas. Balance.

Despite a 100-degree heatwave, I needed to be working in the garden today for my own emotional wellbeing. I didn’t really care what I was wearing, especially since I was in the backyard.

I listened to music while I weeded, watered, and cleaned ash from the latest round of fires. And I cut back the giant zucchini plant that was attempting a takeover. Essentially, I kept myself too busy in the garden to dwell on my current feelings of anxiety and melancholy.

    • Thanks, Alyssa! It felt good to drop off our ballots this week. I’m nervous about the election. But today’s anxiety was more driven by personal things and idiotic comments about the pandemic.
