I’ve been fascinated with trains since I was a small child. I love the gentle rolling feeling that stays with you even after you get off the train. The marvelously efficient spaces feel like doll houses for people, transporting me to a more gentle time.
After graduating from journalism school, I explored Europe by train, and met interesting people from around the world. Train travel has always been a fun-filled trip bursting with great stories.
Last month, I applied for an #AmtrakResidency in search for an exciting adventure and a creative, inspiring and peaceful environment in which to finish writing “Now Then,” my novel based on true events as a young caregiver for my mother.
Writing has always been my outlet, and I poured our unique, humorous and hopeful story into a book. After writing 50,000 words of “Now Then” during #NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), the #AmtrakResidency would be the incredible opportunity I need for long writing sessions free from caregiving responsibilities. #AmtrakResidency would give me the chance to finish my manuscript and be able to share it with my mother before she loses her battle with brain cancer. Amtrak, please choose me!!!
Read an excerpt from #NowThen, and fingers crossed I’m chosen for an #AmtrakResidency! I would love to see the American countryside by train, and if chosen, I promise I’d share my adventures with all of you!
