Today’s #OneGoodThing was a giant refreshing glass of horchata from our favorite local Mexican restaurant. The food was good too, but the horchata just perfectly hit the spot for us during this ongoing heat wave.
If you’re interested in trying horchata yourself, here’s a Food Network recipe by Chef Aarón Sánchez.

I’m not sure that I would enjoy this drink. Can you describe the taste?

It is hard to describe. It doesn’t really taste like rice. It has a nice flavor of cinnamon. I was always surprised at how refreshing it is given the milky coloring. It is very light and wonderful!

In Spain they have ‘horchata de chufa’, which is made with tiger nuts (in place of rice, I guess). I don’t know what tiger nuts are — I’ve never seen them in the UK — but the drink is very pleasant.

Yes, we are actually familiar with horchata de chufa! Mama lived in Spain many years ago and loved it. It is not easy to find here though so we enjoy the Mexican variety!
