Nectar of the gods

Mama and I fell in love with pear juice while we were traveling in Italy and so we were thrilled to find it available back home in California. This Santa Cruz Organic Pear Nectar doesn’t disappoint. It tastes like drinking a sweet, juicy pear, but even better. Mama and I could not stop exclaiming over…

Perfectly basted eggs for Mama

For Mama’s Sunday brunch today, I made her favorite basted eggs over sourdough toast. All three yolks turned out perfectly runny, and she loved them! I felt so pleased to have gotten them just right. And I was happy to make her a special meal after my horizontal day yesterday. Today’s #OneGoodThing was successfully making eggs just…

Key lime impatience

Our lime tree is bearing fruit for the first time ever, and I’ve been eager to bake with these beauties. Though they look more like lemons on the tree, the lime flavor was crisp and tart. Since it’s apparently pie day, I made a key lime pie using this fabulous smitten kitchen recipe. We didn’t…

Hugs with our beignets

Mama and I decided to lift our spirits with fresh, hot beignets and our favorite Chicken and Waffle Sandwiches this afternoon. We love coming to Sonoma Crust Bakery and visiting with the chef and owner Anne. She’s got such a wonderful spirit, and she puts that love into her delicious food. Today’s #OneGoodThing was hugs with our beignets! What…

Peppermint fudge cupcakes

Mama and I enjoyed the most glorious peppermint fudge cupcakes tonight! I found them at our local organic grocer on Friday, though they’re made by the same Bay Area bakery that created the triple lemon and mint chocolate cupcakes we adore. This new flavor hasn’t been available before, and we love it! Today’s #OneGoodThing was devouring peppermint…

A cookie kind of afternoon

I made Confetti Cookies with colorful sprinkles and Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookies this afternoon. The sprinkle-laden treats are a SmittenKitchen recipe I’ve made before, but adding Caramel chips to my Chocolate Chip Cookies was a new twist. All of the cookies were delicious! Now I’m eager to share the baked goodness! Today’s #OneGoodThing was a cookie kind…

Homemade winter soup

I made a giant pot of butternut squash soup last night, which we’ll be enjoying all weekend. Pureed cannelloni beans make the dairy-free soup very creamy, while a bit of crispy turkey bacon gives it a lovely smokiness. The recipe, of no-longer-remembered origin, is an old favorite of mine that I’ve been making for more…
