And the winner is…

Mama and I are both deeply obsessed with anything chocolate mint. I think it’s because she craved mint chip ice cream when she was pregnant with me, but neither of us can get enough and we love trying new varieties.

Some years ago, Mama and I conducted our own Peppermint Ice Cream Wars. This time, I made it a blind taste test of three mint chip ice creams that we’ve enjoyed in the past. Contenders included: Mint Confetti from Three Twins, Dirty Mint from Coolhaus, and Mint Chip from Haagen-Dazs.

As the scooper, I knew which was which all along, but I refused to tell Mama until she’d made her rankings. We each tasted the individual scoops and carefully considered the variations.

None tried to fake us out with green coloring, so that seemed a good start. All three had a strong mint flavor, but the Dirty Mint was more like garden mint. The chocolate bits were all tasty, but we preferred the chunks in the Haagen-Dazs to the tiny chips (Coolhaus) or the flakes (Three Twins).

In the end, Mama and I independently agreed on the order of preference. The Dirty Mint came in a close second, reminding us of our favorite mint chip from Penny Ice Creamery in Santa Cruz.

Drumroll… And the winner is… Haagen-Dazs Mint Chip for its creamy, yet explosively minty base with nice chunks of quality chocolate. Mama and I enjoyed our little competition — and that’s today’s #OneGoodThing!
