If you’re reading this blog, there’s a good chance that you know I’ve been the caregiver for my amazing Mama during her fight against a rare brain cancer. (Almost two years ago, doctors found a massive brain tumor, which pathology showed was an extremely rare and aggressive brain cancer shown to give patients only 2-5 years prognosis even with treatment.) Very little is known about brain tumors and brain cancer; research is slim and awareness even slimmer. We’re hoping to change that. [Just this week, brain research has (finally) gotten some national attention thanks to President Obama’s brain mapping project proposal.]
Join our team – Grey Matters – in the Bay Area Brain Tumor Walk in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on Saturday, May 4th. It’s a fun 5k walk to fight brain tumors.
Registration is $25 for adults/$10 for kids and the money goes to support brain tumor research and awareness. (Registration also includes breakfast and an event t-shirt.) If you’re unable to join us, please consider a donation to end brain tumors.
Team members are encouraged (though not by any means required) to dance walk! What is dance walking? It’s a fun, new fitness craze that Ben Aaron first reported on in NYC. Take a look at the fun in store… we hope you’ll dance walk to a cure with us…
Why are we going to be dance walking? Well, it looks like fun, we ♥ NBC Reporter Ben Aaron and we love dancing… Mama and I are longtime fans of So You Think You Can Dance (we used to go to the live tour before it got huge); we’re huge fans of NappyTabs choreography and flash mobs. This year, I started taking an adult hip-hop dance class (though I’m still finding my swag); and some of my dance friends will be joining us! Maybe we can get Ben Aaron to join us too? Please add your dance walking song requests and recommendations in the comments below! What songs makes you want to dance?
Other details…
The Grey Matters team will have a BBQ in the park following the event.
Carpools will be forming from the South Bay, the East Bay and from the Santa Cruz area. Contact Cassidy Kjeldsen [cassidy [DOT] kjeldsen [AT] gmail [DOT] com] for details and if you are able to drive a carpool.
