We could see the white tents of the famous Rialto market from our apartment across the Grand Canal. This wonderful outdoor market offers fresh fruit, vegetables and fish. The crate in the lower part of the photo above (with round disc-like things floating in water) is holding artichokes. It’s fun to watch them slice through the chokes. I grew up loving artichokes, but never before seen them this way. This is the Venetian way to eat artichokes!
Here’s a peek at some of the fish available and the wide variety of dried mushrooms, tomatoes and peppers…
And here’s our loot from the market all spread out on our dining room table (with windows onto Campiello del Remer and the Grand Canal)… yep, we got some artichoke discs!
