I came across this Charlie Brown cartoon on Facebook today, and it perfectly describes common law in the Nosy Parker home.

Except, we have a name for it. We call it DOLS, which stands for Dog On Lap Syndrome. As in: I can’t get up and do whatever, I’ve got DOLS! This, of course, is typically announced with glee.
