7 year miracle

Sometimes life changes slowly, almost imperceptibly. But seven years ago today, my life took a drastic change — all in an instant. It happened the moment my mother was diagnosed with a brain tumor.

I became Mama’s caregiver and advocate, in what turned out to be a fight against an extremely rare brain cancer, with a prognosis of two to five years. We consider each day a miracle in our home, and we consciously make an effort to enjoy little moments together, talking about what good thing should be featured in this blog every night.

I wish I could tell you our secret, how we’ve survived this many years when no doctors thought it possible. Mama has said from the start that she would beat the odds. I always joke that she’s in charge of hoping for the best, while I’m in charge of preparing for the worst. But that combination of hope and preparation helped get us this far.

On this seven year anniversary of the diagnosis, Mama and I are grateful to be able to enjoy life together, and that is today’s #OneGoodThing!

Day 154 of 365. And Day 885 in a row (here’s the first 366 & the following 365)!
