Today felt like the real start of 2021—a day of hope for a new dawn. Mama and I got up early to witness history together.
We aren’t normally morning drinkers, but this long-awaited day required a celebration. We raised glasses of sparkling Moscato wine in a toast to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
Seeing the first woman to be sworn in as vice president was incredibly moving. The speeches and musical performances were heartening and the fashions were iconic, but the true highlight was National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman’s powerful, beautiful recitation of “The Hill We Climb.”
Our country has a long way to go to rebuild and heal, particularly following the violent insurrection at the Capitol two weeks ago. But today gave us hope for the first time in years. How refreshing to see our leaders displaying empathy, compassion, decency, and a commitment to truth and science.
Today’s #OneGoodThing with Mama was celebrating MADAM Vice President—the first woman and the first person of color to be elected vice president! Hooray for a new day! Now let’s get to work on restoring the soul of our nation! What was your #OneGoodThing today? Please share in the comments! And remember, kindness is everything!

Amen!!! We can definitely sleep better knowing there’s an adult in the White House and we won’t wake up to a nuclear war started on Twitter!

My One Good Thing was a phone call yesterday giving me an appointment for a covid vaccine jab. But can you believe nurses have to go to work passing covid-deniers?

That’s great that you got an appointment, Bert!!! And it seems truly insane that there are still Covid-deniers! I don’t understand what’s so difficult about wearing a mask and caring about other people.
