Today should have been easy to write about. I made a big self-care push and went to the pool to gently move my aching body.
But what was supposed to be a calm, warm walk in the pool this afternoon turned into a nightmare. I was repeatedly harassed and shouted at aggressively by the old man sharing my reserved lane (two swimmers per lane).
It was extremely upsetting even though I was in no way in the wrong. The man still tried to have me thrown out. I felt sorry for the front desk staff who had to sort him.
So what could be good in such a distressing day? The true saving grace was the other swimmers coming to my defense. And Benny did a great job helping me through the panic attack that ensued. But I kept going because I was determined not to cede the lane. When I finished my slow laps, I stretched until the end of my reservation.

I tried to relax in the outdoor spa afterwards but I still felt frazzled. So I added a Starbucks drink to my grocery pickup at Target on the way home and the barista drew this cute little face on the safety sticker!

You really have to wonder what makes some people so unhappy that they try and take it out on others.

People can annoy and upset us for no apparent reason. I guess they have reasons and we don’t have to understand them. I like to imagine that we need buttheads in the world to help us appreciate all the good folks we encounter daily.

I like to reason that we need the occasional butthead to cross our paths so we can better appreciate the vast majority of kind people we meet.

Gabriana, two quick things. First, you can delete the Anonymous quote. That was me again because my first comment hadn’t shown up yet. My bad – as the kids now in their 40s used to say.
Secondly, I would like to strongly advise you to add a Substack membership to your publications. It’s free and you can even make a few bucks by adding paid subscribers. You can also just continue to post to free subscribers there. The whole community is wonderfully supportive. It’s all about writing and thinking. Have a look at it. Just takes a few minutes to get set up. Your long-running amazing blog would be an instant hit.
