Before my recent trip to the ER, I filled our freezer with microwavable meals for Mama just in case I got hospitalized. Since most of the meals that I cook for us could loosely be considered Italian, Mexican, Jewish, or Californian, I decided to branch out beyond our usual frozen favorites.
I ordered several different Indian dishes. The saag we tried was too spicy for us, but we enjoyed the tikka masala and samosas. But the one dish we kept wanting more of was the chicken biryani. We loved this flavorful mixed rice dish so much that I immediately began studying recipes and ordered garam masala spice. Before I try making it myself, we figured it best to try it from a local restaurant first.
We ordered both chicken and lamb biryani, along with plain and garlic naan. Our feast was delicious and a welcome break from cooking on a day I needed it. We even tried two new dishes: artichoke pakoras and gulab jamun (a dessert).

It was so delicious! We’ve never tried biryani before last month but we just can’t get enough. Leftovers today were even better!
