Today is Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement. I didn’t attend any services or fast, nor did I feel particularly connected to my community today. But I marked the day in my own manner.
I focused on forgiving myself, realizing that I’ve been doing the best I can each day. This quote seemed to encompass my feelings lately. Perhaps it can help someone else too.
“Recovery from mental, emotional or physical burnout can take years. Even if you start prioritizing rest and you start living a softer life, your nervous system remembers the burnout and/or the trauma. Understanding this and being gentle and patient with ourselves is key.”
