It’s been a while since I’ve blogged… months since I’ve written much of anything personal at all. We disappeared shortly after our wonderful trip to Los Angeles — where we went to an exciting taping of the Ellen Degeneres Show for Mother’s Day! The Nosy Parker family has seen some big life changes in the meantime.
Our two-story house was no longer safe for my mother — balance was the first clue to her extremely rare brain cancer and has continued to be a struggle these last 3.5 years. She is unflinchingly steadfast that she will defy the odds and beat this cancer. This week, her neurologist even commented that she’d lived longer than they thought she would! She nodded knowingly.
We are now settling into our single-story home in Santa Rosa, California — it’s about 130 miles from the areas where our family has lived for my entire life, moving from the southern to northern ends of the Bay Area. It feels a world away. I love our new home and I’m excited for our new adventures; though I find I miss the sounds and smells of the ocean, as well as our community of family friends who helped us survive this intensely challenging move. I am so grateful for their support!
On days when we didn’t know where we’d end up living or what would happen to us, we’d look at each other and say, ‘well at least we know we’ll get to see Ellen in December for a 12 Days of Giveaways!’ We were invited when we went to an Ellen Degeneres Show taping for Mother’s Day, and Ellen’s Good News Blog did a piece about us (sadly no longer online).
We are huge Ellen fans; she’s a great cure-all — you can’t help but smile and feel good seeing all the kindness she spreads. We love her dancing and we’ve been obsessed with Stephen “tWitch” Boss since he was on So You Think You Can Dance. Fingers crossed he’ll be there when we go back! We are so grateful to Ellen!
Later this month: Nosy Parker family sets up home — luckily we both love turquoise!
