Okay! Having lived in Australia since 1966, I am used to saying autumn. So, I read your title like someone had fallen into the Bay!

I thought the same thing! According to Bill Bryson (“Mother Tongue*), “fall” (for the season) would have been familiar to Shakespeare. But “autumn” is a better word (imo), as it only has one meaning. And I like the way that the silent ‘n’ gets to be pronounced in “autumnal”.
