To my grandfather

Today is Veteran’s Day. My grandfather Sidney served in the U.S. Navy during the First World War.

This is a photo of him and my mother when she was a little girl in the 1940s. I love how happy they appear in their backyard. Sadly, I never got to meet my grandfather as he died before I was born.

I once saw a photo of him in uniform, where he looked very handsome and extremely young. He somehow joined up when he was only 17. He had a Navy-related tattoo on his arm and kept a diary of his travels.

Today’s #OneGoodThing with Mama is dedicated to my grandfather and all other veterans! Thank you for your service. What was your #OneGoodThing today? Please share in the comments! And remember, kindness is everything!

  1. World War I or World War II? The US entered WWI in early 1917 and fighting ended in November of 1018. Your grandfather was most likely a toddler, yes?

The US entered WWII in 1941. Ended in 1945.

    • No. My grandfather was born in 1900. He joined up when he was 17 in 1917 and was on Active Duty in WWI. Of course, they didn’t know there was going to be a WWII so they called it the World War.
