For the last several summers, we’ve thrown a wonderful party in our backyard garden to celebrate Mama’s triumph over brain cancer.
It started when she made it to five years—outliving the two-to-five-year prognosis of her rare cancer. We look forward to this now annual celebration with our close friends all year long. I typically begin planning several months ahead; I started making felt rose centerpieces in January.
Sadly, this year we could not host the party in-person because it isn’t safe or allowed. Also, we’re high-risk and we take the pandemic seriously. Though Mama and I were sad that we didn’t get to hug everyone, we hosted a lovely party via Zoom this evening. We got to see more than two dozen friends, some of whom we haven’t seen in years! We still made our signature celebration cocktail and appetizers and we got to share our garden in a virtual tour. It was a heartwarming evening and we hope to see everyone for the 10-year party next summer!
Today’s #OneGoodThing with Mama was celebrating 9 years of survival with loves ones online! What was your #OneGoodThing today? Please share in the comments! And remember, kindness is everything!
