My trip to LA was deeply meaningful—celebrating new life joining the family and then the heart-wrenching loss of our beloved Yofi.
I’m so glad I was able to be there for those important moments and to support my sister/bestie Alyssa. She’s been a rock for me for nearly 25 years and I am grateful I could be there for her.
The emotionally charged nature of the trip plus the physical toll of travel and party planning have left me flat out. It’s been years since I’ve been able to drive that far and my body nearly shut down on me before I could get home. I broke up the drive into two days in each direction, stopping at Best Western motels with a pool to stretch my sore body. Still, everything hurts.
The car remains full of trip stuff. I just pulled into the garage and grabbed Benny, the basic necessities, and food. Despite the urgent unpacking, laundry, dishes, caregiving to-do’s, garden harvesting, and so much more that I have to do, I am taking today as a restful day of solitude. No phone calls. No errands. No to-do’s. Nothing but rest, roaming from napping to streaming TV to puzzling or whatever feels right. Just being. Not doing.
Today’s #OneGoodThing is my scheduled day of solitude! Wish me luck as I continue to resist the pull of accomplishing and people-pleasing! And many thanks to my dear friend who house/plant/Paisley-sat for me while I was gone. I know you prefer to be nameless, but I appreciate you, friend! Readers, what was your #OneGoodThing today? Please share in the comments! And remember, kindness is everything!
