After more than 12 years of live-in caregiving for Mama, we have agreed for her to move into assisted living today. This is a massive step in our lives. Frankly, it’s one we never thought we’d take. But I am struggling with my own health and I need to focus on taking care of myself for a while.
We’re feeling a bit anxious about this big change, but we know it is the right decision for both of us. Please send lots of good energy our way as we navigate this new chapter. I look forward to seeing what’s to come!
Today’s #OneGoodThing with Mama is a harmonious separation of living quarters! What was your #OneGoodThing today? Please share in the comments! And remember, kindness is everything!

Good for you both, making this decision. I hope everything goes well for you 2 ladies (and your dogs). Big hugs and scritches, as appropriate
How far away are you from one another?

Thanks, Yvonne. It was a tough decision, but so far is going well. Thankfully, we’re only about 10 minutes away from each other.

This is a brave, and I imagine tough, step. I’m glad you feel this will allow you to focus on your health. Self care is so important and without it, it’s hard to take care of others. I’m over here wishing you both well. Take care!

Wow! I can’t imagine. What a really tough decision. When my mom came to live with us (she was 89 y/o), I visited several senior-resident facilities. Couldn’t do it! Mama lived with us and I found a young woman to stay with her for several hours a day while Joe and I were at work. Mama died here in my home in her own bed two years later. Now, I’m old…81+….and living alone. My kitty is the only creature that depends on my staying alive. Otherwise….Please give Jude my love!

This has been the most difficult decision that I’ve ever made. I feel I had to because my own health is so poor that I cannot care for us both. This decision has torn me up, but I know it is what is best for us both. Thank you so much for your understanding and support, Rob. It means the world to us!
